Look at what happens in Pre-K 4!

Students are actively engaged in learning centers throughout their morning routine. They have opportunities to explore, investigate, and create in multiple capacities. Students are instructed by a music teacher twice a week where they delight in learning classics such as Los Mananitas and preparing for special programs that take place throughout the year. Bimonthly they attend Dustin Sekula Memorial Library for an array of literary activities. They create arts and crafts project to support their learning. They have quite a lot to share about their experiences in Pre-K 4.

During the academic year, students will accomplish the following:


  • Identify the front, back, and spine of a book; author, illustrator, characters
  • Recognize and learn the spelling of personal names, number words, color words
  • Learn pre primer sight words
  • Be engaged in dialogue during reading to facilitate comprehension

Grammar and Spelling

  • Learn Consonants and vowels
  • Distinguish beginning sounds and blends
  • Learn when to use a capital letter
  • Create words from letters


  • Write first, middle, and last names
  • Write the alphabet in its entirety


  • Recognize numbers and number words for 1-100; count 1-100
  • Engage in basic addition and subtraction
  • Sort and classify sequence and shapes
  • Create AB, ABB, and ABC pattern sequences


  • Learn the names of body parts
  • Understand and explore the five senses
  • Experiment with gravity
  • Study the Solar System
  • Investigate the life cycle of a butterfly and the lifecycle of a plant

Social Studies

  • Learn and practice social skills
  • Study community helpers and transportation
  • Identify major holidays in the calendar year
  • Practice calendar skills
